A Woodland Night

This was inspired by my solo night in a training camp which I went. To be honest, I really felt very apprehensive when I went for it. Sounds all around and the darkness always seemed to be closing in. But when I finished it, it was such an accomplishment. Of course, in Singapore, there is nothing good about the forests here. So I decided to write about the forest of my dreams.

The mountains loom high,
The night is nigh.
The ground is damp,
Where I will make my camp.
High above me,
The moon is as bright as it can be.
Faraway, a lone wolf howls,
Preparing for the hunt by stretching its jowls.
Silently watching my woodland night.

A woodland night,
The shelter is built,
The woods are quiet,
A Luna lullaby.

The critters start moving,
The wind starts roving,
The stars sing their love song,
And the night doesn’t seem so long.
I close my eyes,
And succumb to slumber.
The sky is still and drenched,
With the stars that light it up entirely.
Silently watching my woodland night.

A woodland night,
The shelter is built,
The woods are quiet,
A Luna lullaby.

The sun is here,
The warmth drawing me near.
Arising from my deep repose,
I see a fox, with one paw out, a funny pose.
The mounts are tipped with snow,
With the winter cold in tow.
The dream is over,
Here comes the morning,
Silently banishing my woodland night.

A woodland night,
The shelter was built,
The woods were quiet,
A solar awakening.

A poem wrote my brother, Mark Chia Zi Han of Victoria School, Class of 2012.
Seriously, he should write a book :D
